Last week I had the priviledge of attending the opening of the exhibition Big Bang at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. It was pretty exciting, though I might be a bit biased . . . it featured the work of En Masse, who a certain Lisa Czech is part of.
The idea is simple, take a bunch of contemporary artists, take a bunch of pieces from the permanent collection, and have the artists create a new piece based on the permanent collection piece. The results? Pretty stunning. Especially since so many different disciplines were included, from photographers to landscape architects. Some pieces made me smile, others scratch my head, and as a whole makes for a very eclectic yet cohesive exhibition.
The best part? It’s free! To celebrate the opening of the new pavillion at the MMFA, all the exhibitions are free!
The Jean-Noel Desmarais Pavillion of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is located at 1380 Sherbrooke West. Big Bang runs until January 22, 2012. It’s free!
